Jodi Ferrier is a DC artist creating contemporary original paintings. Floral paintings, abstract paintings, landscape paintings, urban paintings, still life paintings, all inspired by what she sees around her.

A painting for me starts with a call from an external stimuli, something that sparks an emotional response within me, something I perceive as beautiful. It can be as simple as shapes created between stagnant objects on a table, or the stems of flowers gently resting upon a rigid surface. It could be the seductive space between the arm of a chair and the legs of a model or perhaps, the brightly lit depth that lies beneath a table.

Rather than focusing on literal representation, my paintings strive to capture the emotional resonance I experience when witnessing a moment.  I start each painting with a sense of urgency, working quickly, boldly, attacking the surface with energetic and lively brush strokes. Sometimes the painting unfolds rather quickly, and I capture the nascent moment of simple allure. Other times the painting evolves through layers of seeking and meandering, getting lost and reacting to what the painting now reveals to me. My choices are compelled by this spontaneous conversation; thus, the painting may move beyond the resemblance of the initial objects to one that embodies the thrill, the optimism, the allure I set out to discover from that initial spark.

Jodi Ferrier is a DC artist whose contemporary paintings lie somewhere between abstraction and representation. Her work has been collected throughout the US by private collectors, commercial properties, interior designers as well as the DC Government.
