Jodi Ferrier is a DC artist creating contemporary original paintings. Floral paintings, abstract paintings, landscape paintings, urban paintings, still life paintings, all inspired by what she sees around her.

My paintings emerge from moments of visual intrigue gathered through daily life, travel, and close observation of the familiar. I am drawn to the way ordinary encounters can hold unexpected energy, how a fleeting observation can stir curiosity, memory, and emotion. These moments become the starting point for exploring not only what I see, but what remains with me.

Rooted in observation — landscape, interiors, still life, and the figure — my work explores the space between abstraction and representation, using color, gesture, and form to interpret lived experience. My paintings often begin with an urgency, working quickly and intuitively, prioritizing sensation over representation. I am drawn to the tension between structure and spontaneity, balancing intention with discovery. Some paintings emerge rather quickly, while others unfold through layers of seeking and meandering, getting lost and responding to what the painting reveals along the way.

As the work develops, it may recall a single moment or pull from gathered impressions, memories, and visual fragments. Familiar subjects begin to shift, moving beyond the resemblance of their initial source to become an embodiment of the thrill, optimism, and allure that first ignited the process. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, my paintings leave space for viewers to discover their own connections.
